The Tragic Tale of the King in 3 Parts, 150×290 cm, Oil on Wood, 2022
The Tragic Tale of the King (2022) is a project composed by drawings, ceramics, collages, and paintings exhibited at the C.D. Gallery in Porto, Portugal as part of the ‘8 Paintings and 5 Drawings’ collective show, and at ‘Cooperativa Árvore’ as part of its ‘Pratos para que vos quero’ artistic residency.
Inspired by Roman frescoes, these works reinterpret modern human interaction rituals, evoking intimate, shameful, and sacred themes. This project aims to investigate contemporary communal life’s iconographical symbolism by decontextualizing and juxtaposing social and personal symbols.
The images in these works mix classical images of hunting, trading, and celebration with intimate depictions of actions, creating a hybrid between private and public actions.Through a fictional methodology, the works reflect on personal and public social contracts.
